Purchase the chicks from Hatchery local or online, Tractor Supply also sells them in the spring. The chicks come in pullets (female-all hens) or straight run (both male and female- roosters and hens).
Use a box or Sterilite container or something to place the chicks in. Newspaper, paper shredded, shavings or straw is good bedding.
Purchase a heat lamp from Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply, or a Home Improvement store. The light bulb will need to be for a heat lamp. Chicks need the heat lamp even if it is summer. This is important.
Use a small bowl for feed and water. You can purchase water container and feeder to start chicks at Tractor Supply, Amazon, or hatcheries. The choices for starter feed comes medicated, non medicated, and organic. This will be a personal preference. Make sure the water container is cleaned everyday and fresh water is put in.
The bedding will need to be changed every other day. You can gauge according to the amount of litter. Don't waste the litter, put it in a compost pile.
